Why does clear fiberglass fall under the Option 3 category?

In the past few years, the cost of high quality clear fiberglass has gone up considerably.  This isn't so much in reference to the common foggy glass frequently seen on imported equipment, but rather the high transparency fiberglass that allows you to see the fine details of the wood below it.  As a result, many bow makers have chosen to default to opaque glass like black in order to prevent bow prices from escalating out of reach.  Clear fiberglass remains an option, but it does command a higher price on both the bowyer's and customer's end.

Please also note that the type of finish requested will influence the transparency of clear glass.  A matte or satin finish will reduce just how clear it appears, compared to a semi-gloss or gloss finish.
